About Scoreflection

Scoreflection started with a simple frustration: practising the same passage over and over with no clear sense of what actually went wrong. A teacher can tell you in a second. Alone at the instrument, you're guessing. We set out to build sheet music that listens back.

Why we built our own model

Hearing a single pitch is a solved problem — any tuner does it. Hearing a piece is not. Real practice is polyphonic, it's rushed and dragged, it stops and starts again halfway through a bar, and it happens in rooms with a fridge humming in the corner. Off-the-shelf pitch detection falls apart there.

So we trained PARformer: our own transcription model, small enough to run on a phone and good enough to catch about 95% of the notes you actually play — chords and both hands included. It feeds a score follower that knows what a repeat sign means and doesn't panic when you start a bar over. We trained it on a licence-clean corpus, on purpose, so nothing in the app rests on weights we aren't allowed to ship.

What we believe

Feedback should be instant, specific and encouraging — and it should arrive without the tool getting in the way. Practice is already hard enough.

It should also stay yours. The model runs on your device, so the audio of you failing at bar 14 for the ninth time goes nowhere. That isn't a feature we bolted on; it's why we spent the effort making the model small enough to fit.
